Trip to Magical Blausee Nature Park

Trip to Magical Blausee Nature Park

In this blog post, you’ll find out all you need to know about visiting Blausee.

It was a long time I had Blausee on my bucket list and finally, I’ve managed to visit that magical and mysterious place! My main goal was to see the lake and make some Instagrammable pictures, hence after visiting I’ve realised that there is so much more to do.

Practical information

Location: Bernese Oberland

Coordinates: 46°31′57″N 7°39′53″E

Opening Times: All-year-round

Parking: Big Parking available (No camping)

Bus stop: Travel to the bus stop "Blausee BE": Schedule

The history of the Blausee dated to 15'000 years ago when huge parts of the nearby glaciers were carried away. The Blausee is an incredible turquoise blue, crystal clear lake, which is fed by the groundwater stream of the Kander valley.

The lake is very beautiful, watercolour is magnificent! However, it is not the best spot for photography due to light and composition. That is exactly the case when the place looks much better in reality than in pictures. It is also fascinating that there is not just the lake, but Blausee Natural Park with loads of activities.

We arrived by car, which was a 2h drive from Zurich. There is a big car park at the entrance, the price was around CHF 4-7 for a few hours. Below you can find the opening times and entry fees depends on the time of the year.

As I’ve mentioned before, our main goal was to see the lake and make some pictures quickly to move on to our next spot Oeschinensee. So, my visit was pretty quick, 1,5h. But if you want to spend more time in the Natural Park read “Things To Do” below.

Things to do in Blausee Natural Park

Blausee is not only a beautiful lake, it is also a big mystic Natural Park. It is a perfect place to spend the whole day if you want to relax, enjoy nature and recharge yourself. On the territory of the park you can find:

  • Enjoy a glass-bottom boat ride included in our ticket price (March-November).

  • Nature Park includes various romantic walkways and trails in the forest, fireplaces, picnic areas, playgrounds for kids and Blausee museum. You can buy a picnic basket: from 2 people CHF 39.- per person (+ CHF 50.- Deposit). You can upgrade it to have 2 fillets of smoked organic trout +CHF 14 and various wines/champagne +CHF 16-24. Make sure you preorder and pay until 10.30 am at reception, shop or by e-mail.

  • Visit the alpine trout organic farm. The combination of clean mountain spring water and high-quality feeding provide perfect conditions for purely natural rainbow and salmon trout. You can also shop for the fish there and online.

  • Dine-in a High-end Restaurant with a view. The restaurant at the lake has GaultMillau 13 points for the evening menu. Please be aware of the special opening times.

  • At the car park, you can also find another restaurant The Pizzeria Conventino, where you can enjoy wood oven pizza or pasta dishes. Please be aware of the special opening times.

  • Enjoy the stay in a luxury Hotel. As a guest, you can enjoy a 4-course dinner made of fresh ingredients and quality products. CHF 74.- per person. Also, they provide 2 Stromer e-bikes free of charge between April and October. The special offer: 1 Night with 2x 3-course gourmet dinner made of fresh ingredients and quality products, breakfast and use of the spa. Available from Sunday- till Thursday night. • SPA facilities. The stylish interior offers a sauna, sanarium, steaming grotto and a relaxation room with a view of the Blausee. Entrance is free of charge for hotel guests. The admission fee for external guests is CHF 39.- per person. Included are towels, sandals, fruits and drinks. It is better to reserve your SPA visit in advance, as it is limited to 14-16 people per visit. Also check the opening times, as it is different for external guests. Special offer: admission to the spa, aperitif by the fireplace, excellent 3-course meal at the rate of CHF 95.– (available at lunch- or dinner time).

  • Additionally to your SPA visit you can book various massages.

  • Yoga retreats in collaboration with various yoga teachers. For more information follow the park website updates.

The sad story of the lake

To sum up, I am highly recommending to visit that beautiful lake and Natural Park. I really want to come back to Blausee in October, when leaves will turn orange and enjoy the stay in the hotel, spa and dine the organic trout in the restaurant.

If you’re not planning to stay in the hotel or have a picnic, the visit could be very quick (1-2h), so in that case we would recommend to plan one more spot to visit for the day. I went to visit Oeschinensee, but there is also a lot of cool places around the area or on your way. For example, Interlaken, Brienz, Iseltwald, Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald, Lungernersee.

Let me know in comments below if you’ve visited Blausee already? Which time of the year did you go and what did you do?
